Let’s Talk!: Four: A Divergent Story Collection by: Veronica Roth

Four: A Divergent Story Collection

Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation’s faction leader did the same. Tobias’s transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.

Newly christened “Four,” he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.

Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth comes a companion volume to the worldwide bestselling DIVERGENT series, told from the per-spective of the immensely popular character Tobias. The four pieces included here—THE TRANSFER, THE INITIATE, THE SON, and THE TRAITOR—plus three additional exclusive scenes, give readers an electrifying glimpse into the history and heart of Tobias, and set the stage for the epic saga of the DIVERGENT trilogy.

This was a pretty good book compared to Insurgent and Allegaint. It gave me a refresh on how I felt about Veronica’s writing and my feelings toward the characters. This is probably the second best book next to Divergent. I liked reading from Four’s perspective in Allegiant and I liked learning about his past and his thoughts throughout Divergent. It gave me a little more information on some characters that we didn’t know too much about. If you read the Divergent trilogy or have read Divergent (well I would tell you to finish the rest of the trilogy) then go ahead and read Four.

I think this is very close to being as good as Divergent. It was much more interesting and fast and I loved being back at the Dauntless compound again. I think Divergent was the fast paced books and everybook surrounding that will be that way because the events in that book are very high in population wise. (LOL if that even makes sense…) It brought me back to the days where I was swooning over Tobias before I saw Theo James and pronounced his name as To-bie-yas. Before Shailene Woodley was the Tris in my mind and now I can’t even think of MY Tris without seeing Shailene.

I had so much fun reading from Four’s perspective. In Allegiant Four’s perspective was something that saved me from just rating Allegiant a 2 stars on Goodreads. I just liked his character so much in Divergent and Insurgent and reading from Tobias’s point of view in Allegiant was great. Something else I liked about Four was how we got to learn what really happened with Marcus and how he knew his mom before Tris came along. How he got through initiation  and what it looked like before Eric was a Dauntless leader. It was also so fun reading about Zeke and Shauna and it made miss Uriah, Lynn, and Marlene so much. (I was on the verge of tears man)

Okay we need to talk about a few parts in this book. Eric. This guy is a huge jerk. First he changed the initiation process and made it so brutal so that you are bound to die. Then he is clearly working for Erudite once he becomes a Dauntless leader and it was so obvious to everyone that Eric was not a good guy. I also hated how he always thought he was better than Tobias when in some cases. Then there is the old initiation days. (Training days) They were so nice and calm and it was just learning how to fight and facing fears. That’s thing with Eric. He is more “CHAAARRRGE” while Tobias is smart with his moves.

There is one part where Tobias owns Peter with Zeke and Shauna. I was so scared for Peter when he was held knife point. If he had moved a millimeter forward then his eye is gone. He totally deserved what he got and I was feeling so sadistic reading through that part and laughing so hard. Okay one more thing. Marcus. He is such a jerk and his “strictness” is straight up abuse. I don’t blame Evelyn or Tobias for leaving him and he deserves what he felt after both his wife and only kid left him.
