The Young Elites
I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.
Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.
Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.
Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.
It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.
(Taken from my ARC review of this book. If you would like to see it click here)
I received as in ARC for an honest review. I have been a fan of Marie Lu’s books ever since Champion and I was so excited to find out she was releasing a new book. So when I got the ARC…Yeah this was a good book. I do prefer Legend but that is mostly because I have a decent amount of trouble getting attached to a fantasy type of book but if you liked Legend and love fantasy go for this book! I loved the characters in this book and reading from a multi-character perspective. I think it helped alot with the depth of the book and how we saw the situation. If you like fantasy this book is for you!
Woah….Marie Lu. If the ending she gave us was “only the beginning” of the series I don’t know how I will be when it comes to the next few books. So i’ve got a few things to talk about. First things first. The world that Marie has created in this book is so great. I talked more about this in my ARC review for this book but I just thought it was so dark.
The relationship in this book…Now when I first read this book I thought that Teren, Enzo, and Adelina was going to be in a love triangle…(Nooooo love triangle) and I’m pretty sure a lot of people thought that. But in this case it was Enzo and Adelina…Honestly the relationship in the book was pretty major because of the fact that Enzo would still be alive if he didn’t get so into Adelina and this relationship was brutal. I was reading the romantic parts and felt so bad because the relationship was so not meant to be but it felt like the feelings were there also. But that doesn’t matter because Enzo is dead! (Watch Marie is going to pull a Lauren Oliver and bring Enzo back to life in one of the books ;))
The plan at the end was pretty clever but it failed so badly. They used everyone’s power but the fact that Adelina killed Enzo because she mistakened him with Teren was so sad and a horrible way to die…(or is he dead? ;)) I just hate how Enzo had to die like that. And then the epilogue! I am very excited on who it is and what role she will have in the rest of this series.
Adelina was so vulnerable sometimes. She isn’t the toughest person but isn’t weak. I honestly wouldn’t be annoyed with her if I were in her position because I am a softie. The other daggers were actually pretty cool. Well now that everyone hates Adelina but the daggers were so cool when everyone was friends and there was no standings between everyone. So in general I really enjoyed the book but it was fantasy…and i’m not a very big fantasy person. (I know I know shame) There is one last thing that I needed to address in this post…Adelina’s family. I was honestly so sad when I read what happened to her mom and then her dad and sister. Her dad was probably the worst villain in this book because he was such a horrible father and treating Adelina so badly just because she was a Young Elite…and so was Violetta! (Now that was a huge surprise) Hope you enjoyed this book as much I did!
